A baby monitor is a very useful device for modern parents. Such a device allows you to check on your child’s safety when you are doing other things at a certain distance or outside the room. It also saves you a ton of time. Not only that it keeps you at ease knowing your baby is safe, even at a distance.

However, with the many different kinds of monitors available in the market at present, sometimes it may get confusing. Knowing the different types of monitors and what to consider will surely help you in making a choice.

In selecting a monitor that best fits your family, you have 3 major options to choose from: (1) an audio, (2) video, or (3) sensory monitor. Audio monitors allow you to hear the activities of your child (ex: crying) as they pick up sound. This kind comes in both ANALOG as well as DIGITAL models. The analog monitors are the most affordable, but are usually still reliable. They both work through a radio frequency and use FM signals to transmit the sound.

The major problem of this type of variety is the tendency of other receivers receiving the same signal that yours is sending out. This means less privacy. On the other hand, the digital model may cost a little more, but it provides more privacy and usually has a wider range of reception than analog. Another advantage is that the digital models do not have as much static and they give a clearer sound quality so you can hear your baby better.

Video monitors allow you to see and hear your child by combining sound and video just like miniature TV sets. They use a small camera either mounted on the wall, table or crib to transmit the images into the LCD display. They are usually portable and come with multiple cameras and even night vision.

The Sensory monitor pick up the baby’s slightest movements even during sleep and fits under the mattress of the baby. It sends an alarm to you when the baby stops moving or is absolutely still for 20 seconds. Some models come with audio monitors already installed. These come with a portable parent’s unit that sends you the alarm which allows you to hear your baby’s activities.

What are the things that you should consider? Always remember, that in choosing the type of baby monitor for your family you must reflect on which model would best suit you and your baby’s needs. The size of your home, and the clarity of frequency are very important factors to consider. Simpler monitor models will do for smaller houses, but you may need a more sophisticated monitor system for a larger house.

The lifestyle and the type of work that you have to do is also another important factor to consider. Especially if your work requires you to be farther away from your baby’s room. You may need a monitor that covers the range, particularly a portable one. Remember that whether you would prefer an audio, video or sensory monitor, the clarity of sound and video of your unit should be of very good quality for you to effectively monitor your child. Whatever model you may choose, the most important aspects to consider is that your choice must certainly cater to your needs, fit your budget and most especially provide you with a good avenue to watch out for your baby’s safety.

Marriage preparation is a never ending process and at no stage we will be able to sit back, relax and say that we have everything ready to our satisfaction. There are many wedding plan tips those are available online that you can follow to go through the entire process little easily and systematically. When selecting the list of wedding plan tips that you would like to follow one of the important points to be remembered is that the tips must guide you in a practical way. If the tips you follow are not practical it can make your marriage preparation more complicated.

One of the most common guideline in all the wedding plan tips is the one on preparing the checklist. Once you prepare the checklist you will be able to keep track of the progress of the preparations. However, the number of items in the checklist will keep increasing till the marriage day. Once you have created a checklist you must organize the list otherwise an uncategorized list can create a lot of confusion. Group different items under respective heading such as catering, music, photography etc. Keep checking off all the items that you complete.

One more important point in wedding plan tips is to make a second list in which the work to be done in the same localities are clubbed together. This way all the work done in a specific locality would all be done when you visit the place. This would not only reduce time but would also remove the tension of going to the same place again and again. All the tension and the marriage anxiety would be reduced to a good percentage.

All of us would like our wedding day to be a grand one without any mess ups so we tend to spend a lot of time on trivial things. So the next in the wedding plan tips is follow the rule of simplicity. There is always beauty in simple things. Just the wedding process itself can bring in a lot of tension, if you complicate it further with other trivial things then it can become too much to handle. You will become too tired to enjoy your marriage day.

The next in wedding plan tips come the point which insists the couple to start the marriage arrangements well in advance. Giving good enough time, at least twelve months time, would be good. This would give you enough time to plan and arrange for the marriage and as well get you time for mentally getting ready for the marriage.

One of the common mistakes that people do here is trying to do everything themselves. Few things require your direct supervision, few other things need to be done by you. But there are things that do not require your supervision. Amongst the other wedding plan tips, getting help from others whenever required is the another important point to be remembered during your marriage day preparation.

The assignment of tasks can as well be marked in the task list you prepare. These tasks can be delegated to attendants whom you can hire or to family members or friends. Wedding plan tips like these, though doesn’t sound any special, certainly have their own value and effect as much of the job would be transferred to others this way. Now you would get more time to plan well for the marriage and concentrate more on tasks which can be done only by you.

One can easily miss out the whole point in the maze of tasks to be accomplished that what they are preparing is their marriage day jumping from one task to the other. Unless one reminds themselves often, the entire preparation phase will become another work to be completed and hence they will not enjoy going through this phase. Above all wedding plan tips however practical they may be, the important point to be remembered is that you are preparing for a day that has to be remembered by you for life. You need to stay in touch with yourself and listen to yourself closely during your marriage preparation and your inner feelings will override all wedding plan tips you get online.

  • Pass on Wisdom to Your Children

    by Marty Lee Parker

You are where you are in the world today because of the belief systems you have deep inside of you. There are certain mantras, quotes and philosophies that make up the great side of your personality and are what you rely on to make smart decisions in your life. Knowing, remembering and actually saying what you believe on a consistent basis to your children can be difficult.

By making an event out of the process of passing on your wisdom and smarts to your kids, you are increasing your chances that you will actually do it. Setting up a specific time to share your wisdom makes it happen on a regular basis.

An ideal time to share your words of wisdom with your children is when they are gathered around the table for mealtime. After asking the clich question of, “Did you learn anything at school today?” you can share with your family words of wisdom. The children are busy eating, they cannot go anywhere and there is actually time for what you say to sink in.

This deadline that you have created will be what will drive you to come up with some of the secrets of life that have helped you in your life. Without the pressure and committing to sharing your knowledge at a specific time, you will be less likely to think of all those smart words of wisdom that have helped you out in your life.

Here are smart things to share with your children:

    - Before you say anything negative about someone, pretend they are standing beside you.

    - If you ever commit a crime someday, somewhere, someone will find out… it might not be tomorrow, or next week, but someday you will get caught.

    - Failure is your friend as long as you learn from it.

Do not worry about making your wisdom sound pretty. As long as your kids get the idea then you are on the right track. The sure fact that they heard the wisdom from you is what makes it stay with them.

Here is one little tid-bit of wisdom that you can share with your children that will help them become in high demand when they start to enter the work force and is a secret that will get them multitudes of repeat business.

    ALWAYS GIVE THEM AN “ALSO”

When they are washing a car for money, tell them to “also” sweep out the car. If they are getting paid to paint a house, tell them to paint the house and “also” clean the brushes when they are done. This is the cheapest form of advertising.

  • Various types of Allergic Reaction

    by Syahrul Azlan

Allergies are quite common today with practically everyone suffering from some form of allergy or the other. It is the overreaction of the immune system to antigens like bee stings, some food, insect stings or pollen that triggers an allergy. There are different types of allergic reactions that manifest itself in different ways in the body.

Allergies are generally mild with mild symptoms that go within a few days of getting rid of the trigger of the allergen. Occasionally, there are cases of people suffering from anaphylaxis which is a life threatening condition where there is difficulty in breathing and loss in consciousness.

One Type of allergic reaction is seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever. Allergic rhinitis is caused by pollen, it is a dry protein from the plants. This pollen is spread by the wind and usually the male sex cells of the plant. When allergic rhinitis occurs throughout the year it is called perennial allergic rhinitis.

Insect stings allergic reaction is very common type of allergy. Despite that, the severity of its reaction to each person varies. Usually the person is unaware that he is allergic to this antigen until he was stung by an insect. Most of the time allergic reactions results to second time insect sting whereas the first incident would usually result to ordinary sting reaction.

Allergy to latex is another of the types of allergic reactions where the person is allergic to substances made of natural latex. One of the main sources of this allergic reaction is rubber gloves while sometimes, latex that is used in other products like condoms and medical devices can trigger a reaction.

Mold allergy is an allergy that does not have a defined season as mold and fungi grow in all weather and thrive both indoors and outdoors. However some forms of outdoor mold tend to thrive in higher concentrations from spring to late fall. There are some people who suffer from allergy to cosmetics. With cosmetic allergy, you experience skin irritation because of some ingredients in the cosmetics like fragrances and preservatives. Sometimes there are person who are allergic to pets and that is not the pet’s feather or fur that triggers a reaction. That is an invisible flakes of animal skin called dander that give you sneezing, watery eyes and airless nose. Also some experiencing in food allergies, food like peanuts and jalapenos trigger an allergic reaction.

Symptoms of different types of allergic reactions like hives, puffiness of the throat and your tongue, abdominal cramps, vomiting, diarrhea and low blood pressure.

  • How About Homeschooling?

    by Phyllis Wheeler

Perhaps you are not happy with your other options, and you are starting to toy with this idea. But you can’t imagine yourself doing it. After all, doesn’t it take a superwoman to juggle lessons and all the other things moms have to do?

As a homeschooling veteran, I can tell you this: you CAN do it IF you love your kids. That’s what it takes: dedication to your kids. You will develop the skills you need as you need them. It’s like juggling. When you first learn to juggle, you juggle just one thing. Then you ad another. Then you add another.

You’ll be happy to hear this. Homeschooling may actually be easier than not homeschooling. Soccer moms are constantly driving, getting their kids to lots of different same-age activities. If you were homeschooling, you’d be able to find and do activities that work for all of you together.

Instead of spending evenings helping with homework, you will spend mornings going over academic subjects, using curriculums that are tailored for self-study. Your evenings will open up.

Here’s one option for larger families: study topics, such as ancient Egypt, that their kids can share, working with the fact that their ages are different. For example, you could all read the book Mara, Daughter of the Nile together. Then each child could write about it. You could study some math related to pyramids. You can do art projects that look Egyptian. This unit might last a month or so, and then you would move on to another. This structure is called a unit study. You don’t have to invent them, either–plenty of moms who have invented one have published it.

You will probably want to use workbooks and curriculum to make sure your child is learning what he should be learning for his grade. Homeschool curriculums typically include an answer key, so you don’t need to be an expert. Actually, homeschooled kids usually learn directly from the book or workbook, not from a lecture. This reading skill is great for preparing for college.

Correspondence schools will teach your child, too. These can take the form of videos, workbooks, or online.

How do you structure your day? Many families do the tougher studying in the morning, leaving the afternoon for projects or play. There are plenty of organizations these days with daytime classes for homeschoolers, if you want to sign up for something outside the home. You could even send your kids to organized sports with schooled kids in the late afternoon, if you are willing to do some driving! Watch out how much of that you sign up for though! You have to be careful to avoid burnout.

But you do want your children to be “socialized.” Here’s a question homeschoolers get all the time: “Aren’t you worried about socialization for your child?” Here’s the answer: you have the ability to choose whom your child socializes with, unlike parents of schooled children. You do have to go out of your way to set it up. And you can count socialization with adults–that’s the best kind, after all. Adults are generally well-mannered and kind. Unsupervised schoolkids often are not. Homeschooled kids are usually quite comfortable talking to adults! Don’t you want your kids to be like that?

A homeschool co-op will help you get your kids out and about. You can meet other homeschoolers for classes once a week, or for field trips. Social interactions are well-supervised, so kids learn to act appropriately with one another. Finding a co-op is as simple as asking around. To find other homeschoolers, the local homeschool convention may help you. Network with other homeschoolers till you find the co-op that’s right for you, or start it.

Something else you will need is support. You need someone to talk to who is going through the same challenges. The Internet has been quite a blessing to homeschool moms, who can support each other online. There are many discussion forums attached to homeschooling Web sites, for instance, www.welltrainedmind.com. There are email groups for homechoolers too–look through the groups at groups.yahoo.com.

Here’s the answer to the homeschooling question: You can do it!

When you decide to homeschool your child, you are committing to taking charge of your child’s education. There are many amazing benefits to homeschooling, but the responsibility and time commitment is significant as well. You probably need to spend a good amount of time planning lessons and units. A great way to end a unit is with a project. Projects help children sum up, review and implement everything they have learned.

Projects are not only an important part of any homeschooling curriculum, but they can also be lots of fun. Most people have fond memories of some of the projects they did during their school years. Homeschooling parents are always on the look out for wayt to implement and test the knowledge they have taught their children and projects are a great way to get this done. A good plan is to have a multi-week unit set up for a given subject, and at the end of the unit assign a week-long project that will put to use and implement what your child has learned.

Do your best to allow your child to do most of the setting up on their own. Many parents are tempted to help their kids so that the project can look more tidy and organized, but it’s more effective to allow kids to learn from their mistakes. Once your child is done setting up, have them come up with a way to track progress on a daily basis. This will be an opportunity for your child to learn all about graphs and charts.

After your child is done detailing the plan, it’s time to gather the supplies. You child should have a list of supplies needed to put together the ecosystem. You can offer your child some assistance in setting up the aquarium but allow your child to do as much of the work on their own as possible. It much more useful for a child’s self-esteem to end up with a mediocre project they created all on their own, than to end up with a tidy and well done project that they know required someone else’s skills to pull off.

You can also engage other family members on such projects. The ecosystem, for example, could be placed in a prominent location in your home where other family members will have a chance to observe it and provide your child with feedback on his/her hard work. Parents of children in public schools know how exciting it is when a child comes home with a project they just completed at school. Homeschooling parents enjoy the benefit of having ’school’ at ‘home’ and therefore watching their child’s excitement throughout all stages of a project.

Homeschooling families are not limited by the practicalities necessary in public schools. Project ideas can be as diverse and far reaching as your imagination. For each unit, encourage your child to brainstorm a list of long term project ideas based on what they have learned. Allowing your children to come up with their own project ideas will not only trigger their creativity, it will also make them feel like they have a say in their education. This will make them more enthusiastic and excited about their learning and make for a more successful homeschooling experience.
