Double Strollers - Get The Right One!

by Marina Hernandez

Double strollers are a great help when you have twins are two very small children. So either way, be it twins or two young children, you want to get a double stroller.

As you begin to select your double stroller you will discover that there are many brands to select from. With all the different styles and models it can be a bit confusing to select the right one.

There are a couple basic things that you can consider before you go shopping. Think about how you’ll use the stroller, where you’ll use the stroller and how often you will use the stroller, as well as how much space you have in your vehicle.

Double strollers come in both tandem and side-by-side configurations. Think about which option would work better for you, do you have one younger child and an older child or are they both twins? Either way, also consider the space requirements for traveling, if you’re going out in the mall having a double wide maybe a little more challenging to navigate than a tandem double stroller. Since

Speaking of where you may be using your double stroller consider whether you will be traveling in the city mostly on good, hard surfaces or if he will be taking it out for jogging or trips to the park or beach. If most of your use for the double stroller involves hard surfaces than smaller tires will work fine. If you plan on using the stroller on gravel or grass or other soft dirt like surfaces you want bigger all-terrain tires.

Also, think about whether you will need to car seats to attach to the stroller or if you only need one to attach. Some double strollers let you attach to car seats while others only allow one car seat to attach.

Considering some of these issues before you go looking for double strollers will make the process of selecting a double stroller much easier. By being more focused, you will be able to choose the correct stroller much faster. It would also be helpful if you could stop by local baby store and check out the models that you think will work best for you.

If you’re looking for a good deal on a double stroller you may find it at the store or you may be able to go home and find a good price on the Internet. Either way you’ll be getting the best stroller for you and your child’s needs.

Do you love to power walk or are you a runner? Do you find it difficult to run or walk because you have two young children? The answer may be a double jogging stroller that will accommodate both your kids and allow you to stay or get fit.

Double joggers are first and foremost safe and secure for your children as they ride in the stroller. They are constructed with a fixed front wheel and two rear wheels. They track straight as you run and they are easy to push since they are very lightweight.

There are lots of choices on the market - so deciding which one is best for you is not always easy. Here is a list of 10 things to consider when looking to purchase one.

    1. Wheel type. The way that jogging strollers assure a smooth ride and an easy push for the runner/walker is the large wheels. The wheels on your stroller should be 16″ in diameter and they should be similar to a bicycle tire - air filled tires and spoked wheels.

    2. Comfort for passengers. Part of a smooth ride for your baby is having them be as comfortable as possible. The seats for your babies should be padded and ideally be made of a lightweight, breathable fabric. Make sure the seats recline so that baby can have a nap while you jog.

    3. Handlebar that can easily be adjusted. If both you and your partner plan on using the stroller - and if one of you or your partner is much taller than the other - make sure that the stroller you choose has a handlebar that can be adjusted with a simple touch of a button. This feature will make the double stroller much more comfortable for anyone that will be walking/running with the stroller.

    4. Light-weight. The lighter your stroller is the better (35 pounds or less). You will inevitably be lifting the folded-up stroller in and out of your car - and you want to make sure that it can be easily done. And, obviously the lighter the stroller the easier it will be to push.

    5. Long lasting. Today’s strollers will either be welded aluminium frame construction or will be constructed of metal tubes connected with plastic joints. Look for one that has a welded aluminium frame - it will be more expensive, but they are noticeably lighter and much sturdier than strollers with metal tube frames. Also, look for a stroller that has wheels made of alloy - they are lighter and rust-resistant - compared to steel wheels.

    6. Safety - the most important aspect of your purchase is acquiring a baby jogging stroller that is safe for your babies. Look for one that has a five-point harness for each of the seats. This will keep your children secure in the stroller when out for a walk or a jog.

    7. Brakes. Your double jogging stroller must have a parking brake (usually a bar near the rear wheels that is engaged with a flip of your foot). In addition, the better jogging strollers will have a hand brake (situated on the handlebar) which is similar to a bicycle hand-brake and is used to quickly stop the stroller when running or walking.

    8. Sun canopies. Sun canopies on strollers are there to protect your kids from the damaging rays of the sun. With a double stroller there should be two separately-operated canopies. Each of them should be independently positioned so that each of the riders is protected from the sun being in their face.

    9. Folds easily. You will want to fold the stroller to store it away or to put it into your car. Make sure that you can fold it yourself since in many situations you will be on your own with your kids. It should fold to a small enough size so that it can fit into your car’s trunk. Also, look for a stroller that has easy pop-off and pop-on wheels so that it can be even smaller when folded down.

    10. Stroller capacity. You’ll want a stroller that can hold up to 100 pounds of passenger weight. If not you run the risk of not getting enough use out of the investment you made in the stroller.

  • Mistakes Naming You’re Sleeping Newborn

    by David Bostwick

A poorly named child can be traumatized for their entire lives. A wrong name, like in the song by Johnny Cash, A Boy Named Sue can be dreadful. Sue was given the girl’s name to toughen him up by an absentee father.

Surely Sue would not have made that same choice if he was permitted to name himself. It has occurred to me more than once that a child should be given the chance to name him or herself. Sleeping babies named John might reinvent themselves later in life as Sid Vicious. It could happen.

I remember the naming ceremony for my little one. My wife had undergone 12 hours in labor and was dressed to the 9’s - NOT. They wheeled her out of the recovery room with all the fan fair due a new mother. NOT! While she held our sleeping newborn an administrative lady was there, clipboard in hand demanding to know right then what was the kid’s name? We panicked. We didn’t remember the name.

First time moms and dads have been known to hand a baby a name that defies logic. The googability of a name is a hot topic for some obsessive parents. Their feeling is that the search-ability of a name may become important in the years to come when job hunting.

A name should have dignity at the very least. Traditional names are safe. Something funky will always — or better said — eventually get you in trouble. Like Dweezil or Moon Unit, these are real people’s names I might add, and are siblings wouldn’t you know.

A name should also be simple or simply put simple for people to say and spell. It is efficient if not practical to use a J for a soft J sound not a G. We often take jabs at the English language because of bizarre spellings - this time you get to choose. Choose Wisely.

If you have a large closely knit family naming your child will surely upset someone. Maybe Great Aunt Pooky was hoping before she died you would find it in your hearts to name your napping baby after her. Be sure to do what you want. Don’t cave to the pressures family can bring upon you.

No kidding! The act of naming a baby boy or girl is very serious. The name you choose for your sleeping baby should function for you and the child. Imagine calling your little one at the neighbors — Optimus Prime come home and mow the yard. It boils down to choosing a name that gets you and your baby to sleep throughout the night.

Adults and infants share almost similar symptoms of acid reflux. The condition may vary among individuals but there are common symptoms that are noticeable especially in children. Symptoms usually start out very mild, however, they can become severe if left untreated. This is why diagnosing any symptom of acid reflux in infant is an important step to take. This article talks about the diagnosis of acid reflux symptoms.

Symptoms Of Acid Reflux In Infants

Signs and symptoms that are common in most infants include chronic spitting, constant refusal to feed, vomiting and difficulty swallowing. However, these symptoms can mimic the symptoms of other health problems like metabolic dysfunction, esophageal atresia, and allergies. To be certain, visit your doctor and have a diagnosis.

Early detection of acid reflux in children is important. If symptoms are left untreated, they may progress and cause complications. The warning signs of severe symptom of acid reflux in infant include esophagitis, lung disease, and poor weight gain. Esophagitis develops when acids from the stomach reaches the esophagus and eventually damage the inner lining of the esophagus. As a result the esophagus becomes inflamed, causing the infant to spit up blood or experience pain while swallowing.

Complications - On the other hand, lung disease may develop when the child constantly chokes while feeding (due to reflux), which in turn causes persistent coughing, pneumonia, and wheezing. Eventually, the child will find it difficult to feed and this results in poor weight gain.

Diagnosis Of Acid Reflux In Infants

Proper Diagnosis - Before symptoms become severe, you should have your child diagnosed as soon as you suspect acid reflux symptoms. There are several ways to screen and diagnose acid reflux in infants. Generally, a doctor will base the diagnosis on your child’s symptoms and the results from a physical exam. Diagnosis may include blood and urine tests, esophageal pH monitoring, upper endoscopy, upper endoscopy, and upper GI series.

Testing - If your doctor thinks your baby has severe acid reflux, then he or she may order blood and urine tests, which are often used to rule out poor weight gain and recurring vomiting. Esophageal pH monitoring involves measuring the reflux of acid from the stomach to the esophagus and is mainly used to determine which medication will be effective in treating acid reflux. Upper endoscopy involves inserting a narrow tube with a camera and light into your child’s esophagus. This test can reveal stricture and inflammation in the esophagus. Finally an upper GI and small bowel series is a group of x-rays that enables the doctor to analyze the esophagus, stomach and intestine. With this test your child will first need to swallow barium to enhance x-ray results.

    Preparation

Before visiting your doctor, take note of all the symptoms your child is experiencing. Keep a diary and include peculiar behavior, signs of distress, duration of symptoms and when symptoms happen. This will help your doctor diagnose your child faster. You may also write down questions you want to ask and don’t hesitate to discuss all your concerns with your doctor. For instance, ask about how a diagnosis will be made, how long treatment will last and if there alternative treatment options.

Many big events bring friends and families together. The majority of them, like weddings, graduations, and birthday parties, are very lively occasions. Few are as significant, however, as a newborn in the family. Defying hospital rules limiting visitors to two at a time, family members and friends swarm into the exhausted mother’s hospital room. Packed like sardines, they gather around the bed, cooing over the tiny bundle everyone insists on passing around. Sometimes there is a territorial preschooler strutting about showing off “my baby!” The glow in the room in palpable.

Regrettably, not everyone can be there to see the new arrival, and there are far flung friends and aunts and uncles eager to see pictures and get all the details. For decades, baby announcements have been the traditional way of spreading the good news. All the important information is included, and sometimes there is a picture of the squinting newborn.

For truly special baby announcements, letterpress is a great choice. This ageless style of printing is over half a millennium old, and while the plate creation technology has been computerized, the printing process is much the same as always. Because it is so hands on, few people offer it now.

For landmark occasions like a baby’ arrival or an anniversary party, however, it is well worth the trouble of finding someone who practices letterpress. The elegance and class of this old style of printing far exceeds any modern printing method.

Though it is old, letterpress is anything but old-fashioned! There are so many motifs and customization options for baby announcements. From the cute and sweet to the classic, there are a wide range of choices. Colored envelopes and ribbons and classy corner pockets add an individual touch. With letterpress, you can design beautiful cards that will truly stand out and be treasured for many years to come.
