  • How to Search for Tubal Reversal Doctors

    by Sandra Wilson

Among all the tubal reversal doctors that say they will do your tubal ligation reversal surgery, how do you know which is the right one to choose? In the rest of this article, I hope you will learn about some of the information you should ask any potential surgeon to find out if he or she will be right for you. After all, whether it is to have another child or for relief of post tubal ligation syndrome, you are putting so much of your future into this person’s hands. You want to make the right choice.

Probably the first thing you should check is the doctor’s background including his education and training. Where did he go to school? During his internship and residency, did he train under anyone or at a hospital where he even saw a tubal reversal being done? Most doctors simply do not see this procedure being done at all throughout their training because many hospitals don’t perform the operation very often. Why? Simply because most insurance will not cover the procedure and, therefore, the hospitals don’t do them. So, has his training and educational background provided him with enough training to do the job well?

Next we need to ask about his experience. How often has your potential doctor performed this surgery? Is it something she has done like maybe twelve times in the last five years? Or do you want a doctor who does the surgery every week day for years and has seen just about anything that can come up? Who do you think is going to be better at it and have the most experience to deal with your particular situation?

What techniques does your doctor use to insure to the best of his ability that your tubes will be open once the surgery is done? Does he just “eyeball” the alignment of the tubes and then do a dye test afterward to see if they are open? Or does he use a stint to line up the tubes to be sure they are open even before he begins suturing the tubes together? You need to think if you want to take a chance on paying for the surgery and not even being sure the job gets done correctly. How invasive will his surgery technique be into your body? How large are the cuts he will make?

How about his communications? Does he provide lines of communication to answer all your questions? How easy is it to talk to him or his staff? Do you feel you are being heard and listened to? Can you get into contact with any of his previous tubal reversal patients to get a recommendation? What do others, including his patients, say about him?

Because it is most likely that one way or another, you will end up paying for this surgery out of your own pocket, how much does the operation cost you? Sure, we all know that you can’t put a price tag on that smiling new face or the relief from pts but you have to be realistic. However, don’t let price fool you. In this case, the most expensive doctor is most assuredly not the best surgeon. Be sure you take all the other factors into consideration as well including factors about the facility where the operation will take place.

What kind of statistics does your doctor collect and keep? Does this information allow you to know his tubal reversal success rates? Not for all tubal reversals but just for his own surgeries. What are your chances for pregnancy after tubal reversal from this doctor? Will he provide this information to you? Is it readily available?

Now take the above things and begin your search. These will help you get a good start on picking out the best possible surgeon from that list of tubal reversal doctors you have drawn up. If you don’t have a list, they should help you realize you do need to do some asking and get information in order to make the best decision for you.

  • Key Concepts In Baby Formula

    by Chris Channing

If a mother is unable to breast-feed her child for any reason, or any persons are required to feed a baby that are not the infants mother, there is only one acceptable way to feed the child. That is a solution typically known as baby formula. Baby formula gives the infant all of the nutrients he or she would be given by breast-feeding, that are greatly needed in the baby’s development. All of this can be done without forcing the mother to feed her baby by means of her own body.

There are three main versions of baby formula that can be commonly found. There are good things about each option. Convenience of preparation and price are the two biggest factors in choosing between the three. They are powdered formula, concentrated formula, and ready to feed formula.

Powdered formula is the desired form when price is a real issue. Powdered formula takes the most effort to prepare, but is much cheaper than the other two options. In order to prepare this type of formula you simply boil water, thoroughly mix the powder with the water and allow cooling before feeding. Sterile water can be purchased in order to avoid boiling, but the sterile water should be warmed, and is an unnecessary expense to those who are trying to save money.

Concentrated formula is a think liquid concentrate and is marginally easier to prepare than powdered formula. Although it is more expensive it allows the formula to be mixed with the boiled water much easier than powder. Other than that it has the same preparation steps when dealing with boiled water. When using sterile water a person would be able to make this formula on the run. Simply mix the water with the concentrate in a baby bottle, shake up, and warm if the baby is very young.

Ready to eat formula is obviously the most convenient way to feed an infant. It is done just as the name stipulates. Purchase the formula at a store and feed it to the baby. The formula should still be warmed when dealing with younger infants.

Other versions of baby formula exist for babies who are unable to properly digest standard formulas. A doctor can tell if a baby needs a certain type of formula and why. If a baby does need other types of formula it is not a big deal. This simply means that the baby has trouble digesting the original formula and has a sensitive stomach.

It is not advisable for someone to attempt to make their babies formula at home. If a mistake is made it could greatly affect your baby’s health. Making baby formula is a precise business and should be left to the professionals.

Sugar or honey or any other forms of sweetener should never be added to a baby’s formula. Goat’s milk, cow’s milk, or any form of condensed milk should never be given to an infant in an attempt to replace formula. A baby’s digestive system is very sensitive and these substances can make an infant very sick.

  • Mom Time - The Spa Experience

    by Dr. Noel Swanson

You have to go through it to know what a world of difference a spa treatment can do to you. Once in a while you need to pamper yourself with some such luxury that leaves you feeling good and looking beautiful. May be the pace of life leaves with no time for an all-day spa treatment, but you can, and must take time out for at least a facial and a massage. A certificate to a spa is one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give to your mom on Mother’s Day or any other day for that matter. Let her know how much you care for her. She will never forget this experience, and you will get all the credit for it.

A facial leaves you with a feeling that is hard to duplicate. Afterwards you will feel completely clean and refreshed. When you also get a massage, it makes the whole world seem like a better place. You can close your eyes and listen to beautiful music in a softly lit room as you enjoy your escape.

A few things you should know if this is your first visit to the spa. It is recommended that you enjoy the hot tubs, steam rooms and saunas before your massage in order to start the relaxation process. If you are also getting a facial, it will also help to make your skin softer and speed the exfoliation process.

If you can, get both the facial and massage. Not everyone is comfortable removing their clothes for their massage, the first time. But, the massage center will give you sheets and other items to cover your body. Remember, these are professionals you are working with, and they understand your concerns. Also remember to drink a lot of water before you go to your appointment so you will not dehydrate during your sauna time. It has an added bonus of helping your body in cleansing.

The experience of a spa is relaxing, refreshing and rejuvenating. You can always discuss your concerns with the professional beforehand. This will not only ease your mind, but relax you before the massage. The idea is to enjoy the whole experience. And, if you can put your hesitations aside, you will really feel on top of the world after the massage.

So what are you waiting for? Pick a day and get to it!

  • How to “Fix” Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome

    by Sandra Wilson

Among the methods of stopping conception available to women is the method of having their tubes tied. Along with the normal surgical risks a woman undergoing this procedure has to be aware of, there is the addition of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome. Looking around the Internet will provide you with story after story of the painful and embarrassing experiences of the women who suffer it.

Want to know what the symptoms of Post Tubal Ligation Syndrome, or ptls, are? Well, a search will bring up a list of about 35 possibilities. Some say these are problems you can have with any type of surgery and that may well be true of some of them. However, the ones most commonly found in the stories of the sufferers are very heavy bleeding and/or longer periods, stronger pms symptoms, migraines, weight gain or inability to lose weight, terrible cramping to the point of being bed ridden for some and little to no libido. Some women even complain of thinning hair and terrible mood swings that have caused relationship problems.

These symptoms are bad enough for the women and their families suffering through them. But this is not all they face. In trying to find out what is wrong with them, they endure many tests from doctors leading to various different diagnoses even for the same woman from the different specialist she may visit. When none of their “fixes” bring any relief, the women have to face being told either to learn to live with it or be prescribed antidepressants as the symptoms are all in their heads. We even have one doctor calling ptls a “medical myth” on MedicineNet so, of course, these women are not actually suffering from anything “real”.

The other treatment options these women suffering ptls will most often hear appears to be going on birth control pills or to have a hysterectomy. Some doctors think that the reason for the problems is that after the tubal ligation the women are no longer taking birth control pills or that they have just gotten older. So the best way to fix it is put them back onto birth control pills or just get a hysterectomy.

This is why our quoted medical myth doctor suggests that women about to undergo a tubal ligation surgery should go off birth control pills several months before the procedure. I’m guessing that the supposed age-related factors are something you just have to live with. However, I’m not sure these suggestions will do much to help those women who were pregnant and had their tubes tied upon having their child. Obviously no birth control pills were being used prior to the surgery. Nor do the “age related factors” seem to have any application to those women still in their 20’s and experiencing these problems.

One thing that could be done is a preventive measure, namely more information within the surgical consent form and better counseling prior to the surgery. Many women complained they had no idea and were never told of the possible outcome of ptls after the surgery. The FDA website itself only gives infection, ectopic pregnancy, hemorrhage and problems related to using general anesthesia as possible “rare” complications. With the exception of the ectopic pregnancy, these are the normal “rare” complications for any surgery using general anesthesia. It probably wouldn’t stop most women but would give them reason to do some research into the subject and make an informed decision.

While better information prior to the surgery would be good, it doesn’t help those who have already done it. For these women, there are the actions mentioned above which can be done such as going onto birth control pills, having a hysterectomy or just learning to live with it no matter how much it may impair their lives. One more option that some women don’t even know is available is to have a tubal ligation reversal surgery done. In the stories shared by women on the Internet, this latter surgery has brought much relief.

A further review of the site for Chapel Hill Tubal Reversal reveals a forum where many threads can be found addressing the issues of PTLS. It seems women ask if tubal reversal is the best way to take care of the symptoms. In every case I read, other women answer in the affirmative describing how much improved their lives are in all respects, including the possibility of having another child. Even those who have not become pregnant are rejoicing just because of the relief they are getting from post tubal ligation syndrome, myth or not.

  • Have a Cinco de Mayo Kid’s Party

    by Martin R. Williams

Cinco de Mayo, or the 5th of May, is a valid holiday, and not one that was made up by the greeting card business in order to sell more product. Long ago, the United States worked with Mexico and together they led Mexico to victory against the French on May 5, 1862. It’s still celebrated to this day. And isn’t the best celebration one that involves putting together a party for children where they can have fun and learn about history in the meantime?

Don’t forget the decorations for a great party

The decor is one of the most important parts of the party. The number five should be displayed prominently throughout the room, and all the colors of the Mexican flag should be represented. At least one actual Mexican flag should be included. Things will liven up by the addition of balloons and streamers.

Any party will be more enjoyable when you add a craft project. Each child could make a sombrero using only paper cups and paper plates. Simply tape the cup to the center of the plate, and the child can decorate it however they see fit. If you’d like, you can provide string, glitter, pom-poms or any other little thing that can be glued or taped on, so each child can create their own unique party hat.

    Making Maracas is Easy

You can also make maracas with paper cups. Simply have the kids fill one cup with beans or something else that clacks when they come together, and then tape a second cup on top of the first one. The open ends of the cups should face each other, letting the items slide between the cups.

    Give It a Mexican Twist

Add a Mexican twist to any standard party game for children, and it will be the perfect game for Cinco de Mayo. Using only your imagination and a little color will turn even the most basic children’s party game into something fabulous.

A simple way to incorporate some Hispanic culture into your games is to play musical chairs with Mariachi music. If the children are familiar with Spanish, try playing Pictionary with Spanish words or (more simply) use items that are associated with Mexico like sombreros, or tacos. Try incorporating some Mexican history into your games by playing pin the metal on Benito Juarez (ie Pin the Tail on the Donkey). Explain to the children that Benito Juarez led the Mexicans against the French and it will be a lesson that will stick with them.

    Learn Some Folk Dancing

If you’re looking for something fun to do at a birthday party for children, hire some Mexican folk dancers, who can teach traditional dance steps. For added fun, try to find some skirts for the girls to wear, and hats for the boys. The kids will really enjoy the cultural experience, and learn something from it, too.

    Sometimes Simple Is Better

If you want to go to a lot of trouble, you can of course — but keep in mind that the children will primarily remember the fun they had with each other and not the homemade cake shaped like a five colored like the Mexican flag. The party can be quite simple. Keep the games going, and make sure there are plenty of snacks and the kids will remember it being fun (and probably learn a few things about Mexican culture in the process).
